MIC Remains Committed To Contest In Buntong - Saravanan
IPOH, May 28 (Bernama) --MIC will continue to lobby for the Buntong state assembly seat during the 14th General Election (GE14) as per a consensus reached by party leaders.
MIC Central Working Committee (CWC) member Datuk M Saravanan said the party sees no reason to not contest the seat which is currently held by DAP.
Being a Barisan Nasional (BN) component party, the MIC has been organising various programmes and activities involving all communities in Buntong, especially the youth and such activities and programmes have been receiving very good response and support from the local community.
"Activities organised by MIC in Buntong is not just limited to preparations for the GE14 but rather a year-round initiative to improve the economic and social status of the community, especially the Indian community," he said after presenting prizes for a 9-a-side football tournament held here Sunday.
On March 5, Peoples Progressive Party Malaysia (MyPPP) president Tan Sri M Kayveas had claimed that the party was interested in contesting the Buntong state seat if given a chance by the BN leadership.
Saravanan who is also the Youth and Sports Deputy Minister said what Kayveas had expressed was merely his personal opinion or MyPPP's.
"We respect his proposal but for now there are still capable candidates in MIC who can contest in Buntong," he said.
