Kelantan UMNO To Ensure Continued Service In Nenggiri State Constituency - Ahmad Zahid

BACHOK June 4 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan UMNO Liaison Committee and Gua Musang UMNO division have been told to ensure that people in the Nenggeri state constituency continue to be served following the disqualification of incumbent Datuk Mat Yusoff Abdul Ghani as an elected representative upon being declared bankrupt.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said there was no need to hold a by-election as the seat tenure was less than two years.

"We accept the vacant seat but we leave it to the state UMNO Liaison Committee to decide on the service to the people, and the Gua Musang UMNO division has been tasked to serve the constituency," he told reporters after attending the 'Programme to Instill Noble Values of Ramadan' at the Mahmudi Mosque here tonight.

Ahmad Zahid who is also UMNO vice-president, carrying out the duties of party deputy president, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is also UMNO president and Barisan Nasional chairman had been informed of the vacant seat at Nenggiri.

On Thursday, Kelantan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Abdullah Ya'kub declared the Nenggiri seat vacant after incumbent Mat Yusoff was made bankrupt.

Abdullah was reported as saying the state assembly received a letter from the Department of Insolvency in Selangor on May 28, which announced Mat Yusoff had been made bankrupt.
