MyPPP Willing To Discuss With MIC Over Cameron Highlands Seat
CAMERON HIGHLANDS, June 11 (Bernama) -- MyPPP is willing to hold discussion with the MIC to resolve the issue of the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat which both parties have indicated their intention to contest during the 14th General Election (GE14), says MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas.
He said there was a need for discussions with MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam to avoid misunderstanding between them and solve any dispute.
"I was told that MIC has asked me to contest in other parliamentary seat because it claimed that the Cameron Highlands seat belonged to MIC.
"If the MIC agrees to discuss, I don't have any problems and being open about it, it is better to solve it through consultation to avoid any confrontation," he told Bernama after chairing the MyPPP Supreme Council meeting in Tanah Rata here today.
However, Kayveas said he would leave it to the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership to decide which party should contest the seat.
"The leadership must study and listen to the grassroots on who had been frequently going to the ground to meet the people and who is the winnable candidate to ensure that BN will continue to win the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat," he added.
Previously, Dr Subramaniam had reiterated the party's stand that the Cameron Highlands seat "belonged" to MIC and that it would be contesting the seat in GE14.
Kayveas had reportedly indicated his intention to contest the seat which is currently held by former MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel.
