Opposition Coalition Brittle, Says UMNO Stalwart

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- An UMNO Supreme Council member has described the opposition coalition as a fragile group following its failure to decide who should be the prime minister if they win the next general election.

Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the opposition coalition which comprised groups with conflicting ideologies and strong mistrust, would not be able to choose a main leader among them and the voters should be wiser and should not surrender their future to opposition leaders.

"I do not understand the opposition, as at today, they are still unable to decide who should be appointed as prime minister," he told reporters at a breaking of fast organised by FELCRA, of which he is chairman, here today.

According to him, the people were confused with the direction of the opposition as no one knew who would be the prime minister candidate between opposition chief Datin Seri Wan Azizah Ismail, former opposition chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He was commenting on a posting by DAP member Datuk Zaid Ibrahim on his blog www.zaid.my yesterday which proposed Dr Mahathir as a qualified candidate to assume the post again.
