PBS Ready For General Election - Ongkili

PENAMPANG, July 10 (Bernama) -- Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) is stepping up preparations for the coming general election, including in possible new constituencies created by the Election Commission's redelineation exercise, if approved by Parliament.

Its acting president , Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said the party's machinery at the 13 state and five parliamentary constituencies had been activated and the party's level of preparedness for the election had been further raised.

"Our machinery at all polling centres has started work, and if there are new constituencies to be covered with the redelineation exercise by the Election Commission, we are ready to set up protem committees for the purpose," he said after chairing the PBS Supreme Council meeting at the party headquarters, here, today.

For the record, the Sabah State Assembly passed a bill last year that will see an additional 13 state constituencies and PBS had voiced out its intention to Barisan Nasional to contest in at least six of the new constituencies proposed by the Election Commission in its redelineation exercise.

Ongkili opined that PBS, as a multiracial party, could do well in any constituency given by the BN leadership.

Meanwhile, at the meeting, the PBS Supreme Council urged the Sabah government to review its agreement with the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) in Lahad Datu, also known as Felda Sahabat.

He said PBS members from the eastern part of Sabah raised the issue on Felda Sahabat failing to deliver their agreement to provide settlement for landless Sabahans, especially the Kadazandusun and Murut communities.
