Abang Johari Assures Smooth Leadership Transition
MIRI, July 10 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg today gave assurance that the transition of the top-level leadership in Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will run smoothly.
Abang Johari, who automatically assumes the role of PBB president by virtue of being Chief Minister since Jan 13, said he would not hold the position forever and would definitely be replaced by other leaders.
"I'm now 66 years old and in 10 years, I'll be 76. We already have potential future leaders to replace the existing ones," he said at the party's Aidilfitri open house here.
Abang Johari named two PBB acting deputy presidents namely Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, who are also Sarawak deputy chief ministers, as the future leaders of the party.
In another development, Abang Johari, who is also the state finance and economic planning minister, announced an allocation of RM3 million for the construction of a stadium for the Sibuti parliamentary constituency.
"The stadium will have a track and football field," he said, adding that the construction work was expected to start next year.
