Salang To Defend His Julau Seat In GE14 - Masing

JULAU, July 11 (Bernama) -- Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing has reiterated that Julau Member of Parliament Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum will defend his seat in the coming 14th General Elections (GE14).

Masing, who is also Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister, said the state Barisan Nasional (BN) component party still needed Salang's contributions.

Following his public endorsement on the matter, Masing hoped Julau voters would play their part once more in giving Salang, 67, PRS and the BN their fullest support.

"PRS has no other name for Julau. There should not be any more confusion or individuals making an issue out of this,"

"You all have always wanted Salang to be retained as the candidate. Now that I have agreed, the ball is on your feet. Make sure you help him win handsomely," he said when speaking at a meet-the-people session at Rumah John Okin in Nanga Meluan in here today.

In the last general election, the fourth term MP won with a 5,955-vote majority in a three-cornered fight against Wong Judat from Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) and Andy Wong Hong Yu of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

On the request for the government to consider constructing the Sungai Kanowit/Mujok bridge which would open up more areas for development purposes, Masing said, there had been a proposal to build the RM25 million bridge.

"I will have to look for the funds as this 120-metre long bridge will benefit about 4,000 people from 14 longhouses plus two schools and a health clinic," he added.

At the event, he was accompanied by Salang, Assistant Industrial Minister Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang and Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira.
