Masing Slams People Claiming To Be BN Candidates

KUCHING, July 12 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing today slammed individuals going around claiming they are Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates for the next general election.

They have no locus standi to make such claims, he said.

"Only listen to heads of political parties because these people have more credible information," said Masing, who is Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president.

He said it was normal, with the approach of a general election, for many individuals to move around and claim to have been chosen by their party leadership as electoral candidates.

"The press can speculate, it doesn't matter? you can do that and you might hit (the nail on the head), you never know," he said.

He said that at the end of the day the party leaders would decide on the candidacy.

Masing was asked to comment on several individuals who went around some constituencies and claimed that they had been chosen by party leaders to be BN candidates.

Earlier, Masing attended an Aidilfitri 'open house' of the Sarawak Foundation, along with Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari, when approached by reporters after the function, declined to comment on the position of the United People's Party (UPP) and Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (TERAS) in the next general election.

"I don't want to comment on that ... election is still far away," he said.

UPP and TERAS are BN-friendly parties which have leaders in the state Cabinet.
