Pakatan Harapan's New Leadership Line Up Fragile, Doubtful - Mah

KOTA BHARU, July 14 (Bernama) -- The new leadership line up of Pakatan Harapan is fragile and doubtful as DAP, the party with most number of parliamentary seats in the pact, has not been given any top posts, said Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong.

He said the DAP should have received a better deal in the presidential council line-up.

"I was shocked as DAP has 37 parliamentary seats, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) 28 while Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) only has one seat. Ironically, the (Pakatan Harapakn) chairman comes from PPBM and not DAP," he told reporters after launching the Kelantan Gerakan's Delegates Conference here today.

Mah said the opposition pact could come out with all sorts of promises to gain support from the people in the 14th General Election (GE14) but would probably be difficult to fulfill.

"It is indeed easy to promise but it is a fact that the Barisan Nasional (BN)-led government is going all out to develop the economy, the people...BN is working hard to overcome various challenges," he added.

In a media conference late last night, Pakatan Harapan announced its new leadership line-up led by PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its chairman, PKR's Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the de facto leader and PKR's Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as president.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin of PPBM, Lim Guan Eng (DAP) and Mohamad Sabu (Amanah) have been named as deputy presidents.

Meanwhile. UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said Pakatan's new leadership line-up was a marriage of convenience for the 14th General Election.

"It comes as no surprise. However, they are no match for the Barisan Nasional," he said.

The Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister was speaking to reporters after opening Pengkalan Chepa UMNO's Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings' delegates conference here.
