PAS Points Out It Has Never Forged Cooperation With UMNO To Face Poll

KANGAR, July 15 (Bernama)-- PAS has never forged any cooperation with UMNO to face the 14th General Election (GE14) , said its secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.

He said PAS only cooperated with parties whose agendas were similar to the party's struggles such as the issue on the 355 Bill (RUU355).

The Ulama Syura Council had explained that it could not cooperate (with UMNO).

"However, on the RUU355 issue, we work with the central government so that the bill can be tabled in Parliament," he told reporters when approached at the Perlis PAS Aidilfitri gathering, at the party headquarters, here Saturday.

On the GE14, Takiyuddin said PAS would contest in all the State and Parliamentary constituencies won by its former colleagues in Pakatan Rakyat and UMNO.

We are targeting to win at least 40 Parliamentary seats including the seats won by UMNO besides the PKR.

"As we no longer have any more political ties with PKR, we will field candidates in constituencies contested by the party where it might win including the UMNO seats," said Takiyuddin.

He said PAS which had won 21 Parliamentary seats in GE13 had a realistic strategy and the Syura Council allowed non-Muslim candidates to be fielded in non-Muslim majority seats.

PAS was now identifying three candidates in every Parliamentary constituency to be proposed to the Syura Council which would screen candidates to contest in the GE14, he added.
