Pakatan Harapan Creating More Confusion - Salleh

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) --Pakatan Harapan is trying to hide from Malaysians the fact that DAP, which holds the most number of seats in Parliament among the opposition coalition, will actually get to decide who becomes the Prime Minister, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

He said that although the opposition pact had suggested that its de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) would be the next Prime Minister, but in political reality, the post would be decided by the party that holds the most seats in Parliament.

"In Barisan Nasional's case this would be UMNO, mainly because UMNO holds the most number of seats.

"In Pakatan Harapan's case, DAP would be the one that holds the most number of seats, and this would mean DAP will get to decide who becomes the prime minister and deputy prime minister and not Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad or Anwar Ibrahim, as they are trying to suggest," he said in his latest blog post, tonight.

Salleh said this is what Pakatan Harapan is trying to hide from Malaysians by naming Anwar as the next prime minister but in the meantime would appoint a temporary prime minister until he gets released from jail.

Additionally, Salleh said DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang wanted the Malays to think that the prime minister and deputy prime minister would always be a Malay, as that was the only way the pact could gather as much votes from them.

However, the UMNO treasurer-general said that believed that without PAS, Pakatan Harapan would not be able to garner enough Malay votes easily.

"Furthermore, DAP will still decide who gets to become the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. And Dr Mahathir thinks he is the glue that holds Pakatan Harapan together in spite of their many differences. But then his party, PPBM, has only one seat and does not really have power to say much," said Salleh.

Besides naming Anwar as the de facto leader, the Pakatan Harapan's five-hour presidential council meeting on Thursday night also appointed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) as its chairman and Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR) as president.
