Puteri UMNO Requests For More Women Candidates In GE14
RAUB, July 22 (Bernama) -- The UMNO Puteri wing hopes that the number of female candidates contesting in the 14th General Election (GE14) will be increased in line with the current political scenario.
Puteri UMNO chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the matter was voiced to the top leadership and it was being considered.
"There is a suggestion from Puteri UMNO in the states that the candidates from the wing should be nominated to meet the aspirations of the young voters and it has been informed to UMNO President Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for consideration.
"He did ask about the number of female candidates fielded in the GE13 and so on," she told reporters after officiating the Raub UMNO Wanita, Youth, Puteri delegates conference here today.
Mas Ermieyati hoped the matter could be realised because the opposition had taken such approach by targeting 30 per cent women candidates to be fielded to represent the party.
"DAP is planning to field 30 per cent women candidates and we don't want to be left behind.
In her officiating speech, Mas Ermieyati who is also Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister called on all UMNO members to look after themselves, stay united and to think of ways to deal with the challenges faced by the party, both from within and outside the country.
