Anwar, Kit Siang Will Not Allow Mahathir To Become PM - Salleh
KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- There is no way Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang are going to allow Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to be the prime minister if the DAP-led Pakatan Harapan wins the 14th General Election, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
He said the two opposition figures would not allow that to happen after what Dr Mahathir did to them and to the country when he was the prime minister, not to mention that it would be political suicide for Pakatan Harapan if it faced the general election promising the voters a return to Mahathirism.
"The offer for Mahathir to become Pakatan Harapan's prime minister is not genuine and merely to 'ambil hati' (please) the old man to make him continue to attack Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak," he said in a post on his blog, sskeruak.blogspot.my.
Salleh said Dr Mahathir, now Pakatan Harapan chairman, was desperate and realised that against the backdrop of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the Bank Negara US$10 billion forex scandal, not only was his legacy headed for doom but his political dynasty was never going to happen as well, and his son and former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir had no hope of ever becoming prime minister.
"So, this is the best time to exploit Mahathir's desperation and make him increase his attacks on Najib with the promise of the post of prime minister," the UMNO treasurer said.
Alluding to the impression created by the opposition that Dr Mahathir would contest the general election and be appointed prime minister, Salleh said the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman must be losing track with reality if he thought this was going to happen.
"Has Mahathir forgotten in 2004 when the voters gave Barisan Nasional (BN) its best election result in history because they were so happy to see Mahathir go into retirement," he said.
Salleh said the hypocrisy demonstrated by Pakatan Harapan was so visible that only someone very ignorant could not see this.
"Principles and morals no longer prevail and Pakatan Harapan will say and do anything no matter how ridiculous it is just to fool the voters into believing they have a winning formula when in reality their leadership lineup is a disaster waiting to happen," he said.
He said that the Pakatan Harapan thought that the voters could be easily fooled and that by mere deception they could win the next general election.
"But the voters can see right through it," he said, pointing out that Mahathir would be the oldest election candidate in world history - at 93 - if he contested the general election.
Over the last few days, local and international media have been caught up in the euphoria of the so-called 'alliance' between Dr Mahathir and Anwar and the so-called agreement of who will be the interim prime minister in the event Pakatan Harapan wins the general election.
