Penang Not Neglected By BN Government - Johari

GEORGE TOWN, July 29 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional (BN government has never shed its responsibility in providing infrastructure development in Penang, despite the state being under the opposition, UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

He said the basic fundamentals in Penang, currently enjoyed by the opposition parties since the past two terms, were provided by the previous BN state government.

""We do no not neglect any state with potential to develop, for example Penang Airport, it has reached quite a critical stage with passenger capacity of 6.7 million now, and we are now looking at how to expand the airport," he said when opening the Bayan Baru UMNO divisional delegates conference here today.

He said BN did not engage in a politics that curtailed development, instead it would provide the necessary assistance if it was for the people's benefit.

"The opposition talks without facts. In Penang, they have been in power since 2008, but what have they done, except beautifying the various policies introduced by BN," he added.

On the opposition's promise to abolish the Goods and Services Tax, Johari , who is also Second Finance Minister, said the opposition had not grounds to do so.

He said the government aimed to increase the country's Gross Domestic product (GDP) by RM2 trillion in two years, from RM1.2 trillion, currently.
