BN Assemblyman Describes Penang PPKR Issue As Shocking, Regrettable
GEORGE TOWN, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- The unsatisfactory adherence to the terms and conditions of application for the Low-Cost Housing Programme (PPKR) in Penang, unveiled in the Auditor-General's Annual Report 2016 Series 1, is shocking and regrettable.
Pulau Betong assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Farid Saad said he regarded the matter as shocking because it was at all in tandem with the state government's slogan of a competent, accountable and transparent administration.
He said it showed that the state government was not efficient in managing the infrastructure of the People's Housing Project (PPR) in Penang, resulting in many PPR units not being leased out, despite many applicants waiting for approval from the state government.
"It is a surprise , things like this still happen even though the Selection Process Enhancement Committee or SPEC was set up by the Housing Committee in August 2013 to filter and facilitate the applications of the low-cost, medium-cost and affordable housing.
"What is the logic for the Penang government to insist the federal government to build more PPRs in the state while they failed to manage the existing ones," he told Bernama here today.
The report, tabled in the Parliament on Monday, revealed that there were applicants who exceeded the qualification for getting the houses while those who were truly qualified were still waiting for their houses.
For the period 2014 until 2016, a total of 208 applicants earning more than RM2,500 received the low-cost houses and applicants earning between RM2,501 and RM3,500 recorded the highest approvals with 162 applicants.
