Johor UMNO Ready To Face Former Leader Who Joined Opposition
JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- Johor UMNO is ready to face a former leader who has now joined an opposition party, said its Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
The reason, he said, was not because UMNO was being hostile or was not grateful for the leader's deeds, but on the belief that UMNO was the 'tajdid' (change or renewal) movement for the Malay race.
He said this in his speech at Pasir Gudang UMNO's delegates conference which was opened by UMNO Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin here today.
Mohamed Khaled, who is also Johor Menteri Besar, said Johor UMNO loved the party not because it was forced too, but because of its struggle.
"That is why we did join that leader from. UMNO's struggle is not about prestige, not about getting medals or positions or titles, but for and to serve the Malays, religion and the country," he said, alluding to former Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddn Yassin, who is now with Parti Bersatu Pribumi Malaysia which is led by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
