Reject Perception-based Politics - Puteri UMNO

PEKAN, Aug 5 (Bernama) --Politics based on perception as practised by the opposition, including claiming that the coming 14th General Election would be the dirtiest election can confuse the people and disrupt the country's stability, said Puteri UMNO head Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsuddin.

She said the same tactic was seen during the 13th general election when the opposition alleged that the government had brought in 40,000 Bangladeshi nationals to help Barisan Nasional (BN), which turned out to be an untrue statement.

"After it was proven that the allegations were untrue, they are now using the same tactic...trying to confuse the people with the same style, saying that the coming general election would be the dirtiest election.

"These are tactics which we worry would confuse and in the end, result in instability in the country," she told the media after opening the Pekan Division Puteri UMNO Delegates Conference here today.

Also present were Pekan UMNO Puteri head Malia Irdawatie Khairuddin and Pekan UMNO Youth head Datuk Shahrudin Ahmad.

Meanwhile, on a separate issue, Mas Ermieyati said the mechanism for the tourism tax would only be finalised after the Ministry of Culture and Tourism had met with all state governments.

Mas Ermieyati, who is also the Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister. said this would allow both parties to discuss and work out all issues including the distribution of tax collection to the states.

"All the methods of distribution and mechanism for implementation (of the tourism tax) will be determined after that...we believe that all (state) parties will get a satisfactory outcome and benefit all who are directly or indirectly involved in the tourism sector."
