Johor UMNO Coined Five Aspirations To Stay Relevant

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- Johor UMNO today presented five aspirations of the Malays in Johor (Aspirasi Melayu Johor) as an effort to translate the party's struggle to protect the rights of the Malays and to ensure that it continued to stay relevant to the community.

State UMNO liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the aspirations were coined to act as mechanism in creating the nation's progress and continuity.

He said the aspirations must be able to help solve the problems faced by the Malays and their future.

"We have put forward five basic principles, namely, the first aspiration must be based on efforts to maintain and strengthen the dominance of Malay political power through various means."

"Secondly, we must renew and enhance efforts over the Malays' involvement in the economic sector and thirdly, it should be based on divine revelation and Islam as ad-Deen (way of life)," he said when opening the Kota Tinggi UMNO Division delegation conference here today.

He said the fourth basic principle was the aspiration to champion the new agenda of the Malays, in line with the Malaysian agenda, by taking into account the country's multi-racial society while the final principle was to safeguard the Malay culture and traditions.
