MIC Stands Firm On Cameron Highlands Parliamentary Seat
TEMERLOH, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- MIC stands firm on its stand that the Cameron Highlands Parliamentary constituency will still be contested by the party in the 14th general election.
MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said Cameron Highlands had been a traditional seat for MIC and the party intended to pursue the tradition besides intending to contest in the Sabai state seat in Bentong.
"We have informed the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership that it (Cameron Highlands) has to be retained as a MIC seat although other parties have shown interest to contest there.
"The MIC election machinery has been mobilised to Cameron Highlands and Sabai and will work hard to ensure BN's victory.
"I have explained this matter to the federal government and also at the Pahang state level and I think they have accepted (this decision),? Dr Subramaniam, who is also Health Minister, told a media conference after opening the 71st Pahang MIC Convention at Dewan Tun Razak here today.
He, however, conceded that the party had yet to select a suitable candidate to contest in Cameron Highlands.
MIC had identified and was in the process of screening suitable candidates to contest in the nine Parliamentary and 19 state seats before their names were announced, he said.
He sad 50 to 60 per cent of the candidates being identified are new faces.
