Four-Term Mambong MP Leaves His Candidacy To Top BN Leadership
KOTA SAMARAHAN, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- Mambong Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit said he will leave it to the top Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership over the possibility of him being fielded again in the coming 14th general election (GE14).
Given the health issues he was facing at present, which has affected his vision, Dawos said he was not keen to extend his services as an elected representative but the decision was not his alone.
"It is not for me to decide, (it is) up to party leaders, if the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) said I must stand, than I have to do it, this is for the sake of the people," said the Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister when met by reporters after chairing the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) dialogue with the people at the Jubilee Hall, UiTM Sarawak campus, here today.
Question marks on the political future of the four-term Mambong MP began surfacing a few months ago when he was reportedly experiencing health problems that also affected his vision.
Meanwhile on the event today, he said it was a very important session because the government needed feedback from people of all walks of life on their aspirations and their expectations in 2050 and to work together to achieve them from now on.
At the ministerial level, he said the people were expecting KeTTHA to implement its role and responsibilities in developing more efficient energy sources besides promoting more environmentally friendly green technology.
Dawos said he conceded that the implementation of environmentally friendly technology would incur high costs but it needed to be carried out in safeguarding global future interests such as efforts to address climate change issues that involved worldwide cooperation.
