Substantial New Faces In MCA's GE-14 List




KANGAR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- More than 50 per cent of the potential candidates in MCA's 14th general election (GE-14) list submitted to the Barisan Nasional chairman who is also Prime minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak for consideration are new faces.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the party would nevertheless monitor the performance of the would-be candidates.

"If their performance is good, there is no reason why they should not be nominated," he told reporters after launching the Perlis MCA delegates conference here today. Also present was Perlis MCA chairman Datuk Chua Tee Yong.

Liow who said he was satisfied with the party machinery's preparation for GE-14, added that the Malaysian government had performed well.

He said Malaysia's economy in the six-month period expanded by 5.7 per cent with a total trade of almost RM1.4 trillion.

"The opposition is only good at playing with the emotions of the people and politicising everything including the investments made by China, and Employees Provident Fund in the United States," he said.
