MCA Ready To Regain Gelang Patah Parliamentary Seat In GE14
KAMPAR, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- The MCA is ready to wrest back the Gelang Patah Parliamentary seat in Johor from the opposition in the 14th General Election (GE14), said its deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
He said Gelang Patah MCA Division always work hard to win the support of the voters so as to regain the Parliamentary seat for the Barisan Nasional (BN).
"We (MCA) never waver and have join forces with BN component parties by carrying out various strategies to recapture the seat currently held by Lim Kit Siang (DAP advisor).
"No matter who (opposition candidate) will contest in the seat, MCA will definitely stand in Gelang Patah which was once held by MCA representative and we are confident of regaining it," he said.
Wee, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, told this to reporters after opening the Perak Chinese National Type Schools Chinese language teaching and learning techniques enhancement workshop in Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) here today.
In May, Johor MCA chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he had agreed to field a MCA candidate to contest in the Gelang Patah Parliamentary seat but the party candidate would be decided by the central BN leadership.
In the GE13, Kit Siang defeated former Johor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Othman with a majority of 14,762 votes.
