MyPPP Must Intensify Efforts To Attract KL's Elites - Ku Nan
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- MyPPP, as part of the Barisan Nasional (BN), must intensify efforts to win the hearts of the people in Kuala Lumpur especially of the elitist groups, said BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
"These groups should not be 'feared' just because they enjoy a better lifestyle or have a more critical mindset. MyPPP and BN can use these factors to get more comprehensive inputs.
"Why does the BN have workers who are afraid to enter elite areas...why are you scared? You are only interested in going into PPR (Public Housing Project) areas. Why not go to Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Bangsar, Damansara, where the rich people live. They have needs too," Tengku Adnan, who is also Federal Territories Minister, said.
"We should be having townhall sessions with them (the elitist groups) to discuss what are their problems, what are their needs, what are the ideas"
"We want the people to know that our party (BN) is not just for poor people, but it is also for everyone," he said when opening the annual general meeting of Federal Territory MyPPP and launching its election machinery for the 14th general election, here today.
Also present were MyPPP president Tan Sri Dr M Kayveas, party senior vice-president Datuk Seri Maglin Dennis D Cruz, vice-president Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan Jeganathan, who is also Deputy Federal Territories Minister, and Federal Territories MyPPP vice-president Datuk Zakaria Abdul Rahman.
Tengku Adnan said the cause of most of the social problems which plague the big cities could be identified and comprehensively resolved if the BN general election machinery, including that of MyPPP, met with and listened to the people.
He said if the social problems were effectively handled, this would strengthen the BN's position in the eyes of the people In (urban areas).
Responding to Tengku Adnan's call, Kayveas said MyPPP would draw up and conduct townhall programmes as early as next week.
"This is because we are aware that these groups are somewhat cut-off, not involved comprehensively in the development of the Federal Territory (of Kuala LUmpur). So, we will give them the chance to speak, and ask them...not just about problems, but constructive ideas which we can forward to the government," he said.
Recognising that it was not an easy task as these elitist groups had a different way of thinking and lifestyle, Kayveas said it was a challenge which had to be met to ensure that BN continued to have a place with all levels of society.
Kayveas, who is also the advisor to the Transport Ministry, said MyPPP launch a pioneer townhall project in Bangsar, followed by Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Damansara.
