UMNO Potential Candidates Need Voters Support To Contest In GE14 - Ahmad Bashah

KUALA NERANG, Oct 8 (Bernama) - The Kedah UMNO liaison committee is evaluating all the potential candidates for the 14th General Election, taking into account the level of support received from voters in their respective constituencies.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah said all nominees were eligible, however, more importantly, they must receive support and preferred by voters, in order to be fielded as the party's candidates for the respective constituency.

"We have identified and evaluated all prospective candidates and all have equal opportunity. We will see who received the most support from voters, then they will be considered to contest at 36 state assembly and 15 parliamentary constituencies," he said after visiting the Volvarela Mushroom Seed Production and Development Centre here today.

Also present were Padang Terap Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Kuala Nerang state assemblyman Datuk Badrol Hisham Hashim and Pedu state assemblyman Kama Noriah Ibrahim.

Earlier, Ahmad Bashah and state UMNO division leaders attended breakfast with the people from the constituency before visiting the district voting centre (PDM) in Naka to see the UMNO machinery preparation at the centre.

Ahmad Bashah, during his media conference earlier, said that the state UMNO had received a list of nominees, including women, for review before their candidacy to be decided by the UMNO top leadership.

He also added that Kedah UMNO was currently in the midst of visiting all the state assembly and parliamentary constituencies, to see their preparation for the upcoming GE14, especially to ensure that all PDM centres were in good shape.
