JKKK Should Be Proactive In Convincing Grassroots To Support BN - Nanta

MIRI, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- The government wants grassroots leaders in the state to be proactive in convincing the village community to continue supporting the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in the coming 14th general election.

Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said continued support for the ruling government would ensure sustained development in the country.

"This is important to ensure that all the development agenda planned could be successfully implemented and benefit the people," he said when officiating at the Infra-Unikl Village Governance Certificate programme, here, today.

He said with solid support from grassroots leaders like penghulu and village heads, the government's aspiration of Malaysia achieving the developed-nation status by 2020 and making the National Transformation 2050 plan a success could be realised.

According to him, village heads or community leaders, being part of the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) and Federal Village Security Committee (JKKKP) in their respective areas needed to correct villagers' perception by giving accurate information.

In line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's suggestion, Nanta wants grassroots leaders to understand the real facts about current issues so that the government would not be the victim of political games.

He said using the new media was one of the ways to correct villagers' negative perception.

On the Village Governance Certificate programme, he said almost 500 JKKK from Miri, Beluru, Niah, Marudi, Long Lama, Tatau, Bintulu, Limbang and Lawas districts participated in it.

Phase 1 of the programme for the Sarawak Zone was held on May 23 to 25, involving 500 JKKK from the Kuching, Samarahan and Serian areas.

Also present at the event was director of the Institute for Rural Advancement, Datuk Rubiyah Abdul Rahman.
