Two DAP Members Hand Over Protest Memorandum On DAP Re-election

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Two DAP members today handed over a memorandum to the Registrar of Societies over their dissatisfaction that the party re-election for its Central Executive Committee on Nov 12 is via a special congress and not a national congress.

The deputy chairman of DAP's Taman Ehsan branch in Klang, L. Pannerselvam said Clause VIII of Article 8 of the party's constitution stated that a special congress can only be convened to discuss specific matters and not for the purpose of elections.

"We have no knowledge whether the constitution has been amended (to allow for elections via a special congress," he told reporters before handing over the memorandum to ROS' headquarters here.

The other DAP member, G. Asoghan, from the Bagan Luar branch in Butterworth, claimed that 10 weeks notice must be given to each branch before elections are held.

"Both of were were voting delegates when the election (for the CEC) was held in 2012 and each branch received 10 weeks notice. This time there is none," he said.

ROS has ordered DAP to hold fresh elections for the CEC after it did not recognise the results of the original election held on Dec 15, 2012 and the re-election held on Sept 29, 2013.

On Monday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng announced that the new CEC election would be held on Nov 12 at the Ideal Covention Centre in Shah Alam , saying that ROS had given the go ahead.
