Barisan Nasional To Continue To Help The People, Regardless Of Race - Shahidan
ARAU, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The Indian community, despite being a minority in the country, will continue to be assisted, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said today.
He said the participation of the Indian community in the government was proven with the presence of MIC through its three representatives.
They are Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M Saravanan, Deputy Education Minister Datuk P Kamalanathan, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri S K Devamany and Dewan Negara president Datuk S A Vigneswaran.
"The Indian community in the country, especially the BN (Barisan Nasional) supporters, though they are a minority, and through a component party, MIC, which won three parliamentary seats in the last general election, the government gave five posts in the government, including a minister, deputy ministers and Dewan Negara president," he said.
Shahidan was met by reporters at the Arau parliamentary constituency Deepavali Open House at the Kubang Gajah Service Centre here today.
Also present was Perlis MIC chairman S Vengadasamy.
Shahidan said the government provided assistance to the people, regardless of their race and religion.
"We see the opposition parties are now in chaos, so, how can they provide what the people want," he said, adding that as the Perlis UMNO Liaison committee chairman, and also a cabinet member, he would strive to help the people.
In another development, Shahidan said BN would work hard to win back the Sanglang and Indera Kayangan state seats from the opposition in the coming general election so that all the 15 state seats and three parliamentary seats in Perlis would come under BN.
