MB Confident Negeri Sembilan Will Have 600,000 Voters
SEREMBAN, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said today he is confident the number of voters in the state will have exceeded 600,000 by the third quarter of this year.
He said that based on the data released by the Election Commission, Negeri Sembilan had 598,000 voters in the middle of this year, up from 555,000 at the 13th General Election in 2013.
"There has been an increase of more than 42,000 voters since the last general election, and from the total, 30,000 are Malay voters.
"This is the result of the work of UMNO and Wanita UMNO which worked hard to increase the number of voters in their constituencies," he said to reporters after the weekly meeting of the State Executive Council.
Mohamad, who is also chairman of the Negeri Sembilan UMNO Liaison Committee, said UMNO checked with the EC constantly to learn about the newly registered voters and made a comparison with UMNO members.
"In UMNO, we will constantly check on the list of UMNO members, especially Youth and Puteri members who have reached the age of 21 and help them to register as voters.
"These members are those who joined UMNO at the age of 18 and, when they turn 21, some of them forget to register as voters," he said.
