2018 Budget: Govt Committed To Develop Indian Community -- Manickam

SEREMBAN, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- The announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the allocation for the development of the Indian community when tabling the 2018 Budget yesterday showed the government's commitment to uplift the socio-economic standard of the community.

Negeri Sembilan MIC chairman Datuk L. Manickam said the Indian community was happy with the various incentives announced by the prime minister, especially on education.

"The seven per cent intake of Indians to public institutions of higher learning is something much awaited by the Indian community in the country and the RM50 million allocation for development of Tamil schools will give a new face to the schools, especially those in the remotes area, like in plantations.

"Through these allocation, we can see the government's concern for the welfare of the Indian community," he told Bernama here today.

Manickam said the launch of the Malaysian Indian Blueprint (MIB) and the allocation of RM50 million through the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund (TEKUN) for the Indian Community Entrepreneur Development Scheme (SPUMI) and the special distribution of Amanah Saham 1Malaysia units for the Indian community would given positive impact on the Indians in the country.

"It's my hope that the Indian community continues to be with the Barisan Nasional government to ensure programmes to improve their socio-economic standard continues and achieved the desired target," he added.
