Voting For MCA In GE14 Will Be Right Choice - Liow
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) --The MCA has vowed to bring about a new atmosphere for the Chinese in which they can further flourish, should the party be able to gain more support from the community in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).
Giving an assurance that the Chinese electorate would be making the right choice by backing the MCA in the national polls, party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said MCA had full confidence to respond to every challenge.
"We hope Chinese votes will flow back to the MCA and Barisan Nasional (BN) on a large scale so that we can undertake a larger role and fight from within the government for more benefits for the Chinese community," he said when delivering his presidential address at the 64th MCA annual general assembly in Wisma MCA here tonight.
He noted that ever since he and his team took over the party leadership in 2013, they had introduced a series of transformational programmes to strengthen the party's organisational structure, empower its working team and improve efficiency in service delivery to the public.
Liow, who is also transport minister, said they had succeeded in uniting MCA members, as well as the Chinese community.
"What we need is strength from the Chinese community. History will prove that support from the Chinese community for the MCA in GE14 will be the most rational and accurate choice.
"Herewith, I promise that if every Chinese gives wholehearted support to the MCA, we'll certainly bring a new (level of) performance, bringing about a new atmosphere for the Chinese community," he said before 1,526 central delegates gathered in Dewan San Choon at the party headquarters.
Taking a swipe at the DAP, Liow said the opposition party had not been prioritising services to society and not making any effort for the betterment of Chinese education and the economy, but depended solely on its ability to twist facts and incite people's sentiments.
He said it was important for MCA to continue to be represented in the government as this would lead to the betterment of the Chinese in the country.
He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the BN government which the MCA was part of, had implemented many far-sighted policies and projects which had benefited the people and the nation.
Liow said the approval for 10 new Chinese vernacular schools had again proven that the prime minister had kept his promise.
"I am also fully confident that as long as Datuk Seri Najib leads the BN government, the future of Chinese education in this country remains bright. This is the nature of Datuk Seri Najib's government, one that fulfills its promises," he added.
Najib is scheduled to open the MCA AGM tomorrow morning.
In the run-up to GE14, Liow urged party members to fully utilise the social media to highlight MCA's achievements and services to the people as well as counter the opposition's slander and lies.
