MCA Must Win More Seats In GE 14 - Najib
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today called on MCA to win more seats in the 14th General Election (GE14), at least 15 seats, as compared to the seven they won in GE13.
He said this was necessary so that the Chinese community had a stronger voice in the Barisan Nasional coalition to look after their interests.
"MCA is a component party of the BN and a loyal friend. Now MCA only has seven seats in Parliament. If it has 15, it will be a lot stronger in the government."
"We ask the Chinese community, what do they want. Do they want a strong Chinese representation in the government? Or you want a weak representation. The choice is yours," he said when opening MCA's 64th annual general meeting here today.
The BN chairman said the BN government had catered to the community very well all along and the coalition had succeeded in ensuring peace and stability which were pre-requisites for the people to progress and prosper.
As such, he told the Chinese community that choosing BN would be the best decision towards ensuring their interests were assured.
He stressed that they should be aware that DAP in reality could not form the government even though they won 38 parliamentary seats in GE13.
This is the reality. Don't waste your time on the other side. It is all hypocrisy. Do you think Lim Kit Siang (veteran DAP leader) loves Dr Mahathir. Tun Mahathir and Lim Kit Siang are the mother of all hypocrites, he said to loud roars of applause from the delegates present.
Najib said the opposition now was only interested in criticising and condemning the efforts taken by the BN government and making all kinds of U-turns on their own statements.
He said they were nowhere near the BN which had succeed in bringing about real development for the people and Malaysia.
"We as the government , we have delivered for the people," he said.
Citing the government's approval to build 10 national-type Chinese primary schools (SJKC) and relocate six others, Najib said it had nothing to do with the GE but instead done according to demand from time to time.
"I've done this before, I've approved Chinese schools in the past. We review from time to time. It's about the needs of the community," he said.
He further stressed that the approval (for the new SJKC) came along with funding and not as what the opposition had claimed.
Touching on Budget 2018, Najib, who is also Finance Minister, said the BN was not a party that promised the moon and the stars but one that delivered on its pledges based on the needs of the stakeholders.
"When I made the budget, I took many hours to understand what the people want. What does each community want. What poor people want. What middle class people want. What women and youth want. That is why we came out with a budget which received positive feedback by all tiers," he said.
The prime minister said the Chinese community benefited greatly form Budget 2018 among others funding for SMEs to the tune of RM50 million which will be channeled by Koperasi Jaya Diri Malaysia Bhd (Kojadi).
He assured the delegates that BN under his leadership would treat the Chinese community fairly in all aspects, especially in the economic field.
Stressing that all successes must be shared by all, Najib urged to MCA to move together with BN for the betterment of all Malaysians.
"This is why Malaysia is successful. Please do not throw away this spirit (multiracial)," he said, adding that Malaysia was now targeting to be among the top 20 nations in the world by 2050.
A total of 1,526 or 65.9 per cent of the party's 2,317 delegates attended the AGM.
Also present were MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, his deputy Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong and secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan.
