GE14: Indian Community Needs To Ensure Rep In Kedah Govt

SUNGAI PETANI, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- The Indian community in the state has to ensure there is a representative from among them to enable more progress and development implemented for them. MIC president and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said to realise this aspiration, they should be wise in making their decision and not to repeat their mistake in the 13th general election (GE13).

"Before 2008, we had a state executive councillor from the Indian community, at that time, many problems of the Indian community were solved but when the opposition took over power, not much had been done for the Indian community even though the state exco at that time was from the Indian community.

"Now despite Barisan Nasional returning to power in Kedah, the MIC candidates in Lunas and Bukit Selambau lost, causing us to be without a representative...the future of the Indian community depends on the decision made in GE14," he said when speaking at a state level Deepavali Carnival and Open House near here tonight.

The occasion was launched by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.

Dr Subramaniam said in this regard, the Indian community needed to take a lesson from the past general elections by giving their support to ensure victory for the MIC candidates selected to contest for BN.
