Puteri UMNO Squad To The Aid Of Penang Flood Victims
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- Members of the Kuala Lumpur Puteri UMNO left the federal capital today for Penang to help flood victims there.
Puteri UMNO head Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said 12 vehicles carrying 50 members as well as dried products, cooking essentials, schooling aid and other items went to various flood-hit locations such as Tasek Gelugor dan Permatang Pauh.
"The volunteers will join about 600 others who went from Perak to form Puteri's force in Penang," she said.
Another Puteri UMNO squad will head for Kedah to help flood victims there.
Earlier, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said heavy rains and high tide on Saturday caused the worst floods in Penang since the last 20 years, resulting in stagnant rain water in all parts of the state.
As of this morning, the number of flood victims in evacuation centres in four districts in Penang showed a slight decline with 6,080 people from 1,572 families compared to 6,243 from 1,588 families.
Meanwhile, 100 volunteers from the MIC Youth Disaster Aid Centre (MYDaC) were mobilised to Penang and Kedah today to help the flood victims there.
MIC Youth head Datuk C. Sivarrajh said the MYDaC team will distribute early assistance inlcuidng essential items to 200 families.
"Besides distributing the essential items, the volunteers will also help clean the homes as well as houses of worship affected by the flood," he said in a statement today.
