All Public Universities To Be Digitalised By Mid-2018
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- All public universities in the country will embrace digitalisation by the middle of 2018.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said a majority of universities have implemented digital applications such as cashless and QR code to ensure the authenticity of the certificates produced.
"It will not only bring the universities toward the digital revolution but also prevent fake documents," he said after launching Japan Day 2017 at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur campus, here today.
Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) is the first university to implement the QR Code system since 2015 to avoid people using fake certificates.
"All an employer needs to do is scan the QR code on the certificate to verify the authenticity. All the applications are developed in house by the information technology (ICT) sector in local universities."
Idris said Malaysian higher education institutions can learn from Japan, especially in terms of engineering and technology.
"We need to learn and adapt their work culture, technology and many others in order for us to move forward and be a successful nation."
Meanwhile, the Japanese ambassador to Malaysia, Makio Miyagawa said that Japan has been one of the oldest allies to Malaysia with 60 years of diplomatic relationship.
"We have created more than 400,000 jobs in the industrial and technology sector with more than 2,500 big and small companies having their operations here."
There are more than 8,000 Malaysian students in Japan.
