DAP Does Not Listen To The People: Gerakan Youth

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Gerakan today took the DAP-led Penang state government to task for not listening enough to people's concerns especially on the environment.

Its Youth chief Tan Keng Liang said the hardship faced by the people in light of floods and landslides that occurred in Penang was the result of the party's apathy in hearing them out.

"The residents had been expressing their concerns over the uncontrolled development particularly hillside. This included the objection by Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu," he said at the Gerakan Youth and Women's National Delegates Conferences here today.

He also urged the DAP state government to reveal the number of projects it had approved despite being rejected by the Environment Department.

Tan further claimed that DAP had not fulfilled many pledges it made to the people.

Meanwhile, Gerakan Wanita chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe urged the Chinese community to return to the BN in the 14th general election.

She said the floods in Penang should be an eye-opener for all parties on the DAP's inability to fulfil their promises.

She urged the people not to believe DAP which was constantly twisting facts to cover its weaknesses.

Lian Hoe also claimed the opposition were getting nervous and anxious as well as feeling threatened by the successes of the transformation programme being realised by the BN government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak including in transportation, housing and national fiscal consolidation.

The two Gerakan wings' AGM were opened by party deputy president Dr Cheah Soon Hai.
