Gerakan Women's Wing Passes 7 Resolutions

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) --The Gerakan Women's wing passed seven resolutions at its National Delegates Conference today.

One of the resolutions called for the government and people to practise moderation and inclusiveness in the face of political provocation and extremism that could threaten racial harmony in the country.

The delegates also unanimously concurred with the proposal to invoke the Sedition Act in ensuring that respect among the people for one another and for the country's leaders continued to prevail.

"The Communications and Multimedia Commission is obliged to take stern and immediate action against social media users who abuse cyberspace with offensive and obscene language and fake information, and manipulate racial sentiments to undermine unity in the country," stated the resolution.

The wing also hoped the government would practise 'zero tolerance' of corruption in every government ministry, department and agency, and duly act to curb wastage and misappropriation.

Aside from that, the wing also urged the government to draft a law and expand the definition of statutory rape to ensure that the offender would not escape from custodial sentence and would not be allowed to marry the victim as a means of settling the case.

Meanwhile, 12 resolutions were passed by Gerakan Youth wing.

One of the resolutions was to urge the government to formulate a law that set a minimal age of 40 years for an individual to qualify for a 'Datuk' award, besides tightening the guidelines and criteria for the award.

"This is to prevent abuse of the Datukship and other titles awarded by the country and to enable the government to act against those individuals who were directly or indirectly involved in the scam, including dubious recipients and fake Datukship," it added.

The delegates also echoed the call by the women's wing for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to continue doing their job in combating corruption without fear or favour.
