Puteri UMNO Launches S.A.F.E Campaign To Combat Sexual Violence
BANTING, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Puteri UMNO today launched the 'Stop Abuse For Everyone for Safer And Fearless Environment' (S.A.F.E) campaign to combat sexual violence against children and young women.
Its chief, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the campaign was introduced because of the people's indifferent attitude towards the matter and many victims were too afraid to come forward and report the crime.
Mas Ermieyati said the campaign, which was initiated under the #PuteriPeduli programme, would provide exposure on self-defence, understanding on sexual harassment and interactive discussions to ensure more healthy and safe relationships.
"The S.A.F.E campaign will be mobilised nationwide to enlighten the public on the matter because it cannot be ignored if it happens to our family...they (the victims) must be helped,\" she told reporters after launching the campaign here.
Mas Ermieyati said all Puteri UMNO members were urged to work closely with non-governmental organisations to intensify various related activities to ensure that women and children would continue to be protected.
The S.A.F.E campaign will expose children as young as four and young married or single women to self- defence and teach people on how to recognise symptoms of depression or abuse.
