Kit Siang, Guan Eng Re-elected To DAP's CEC
SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 (Bernama) --DAP's veteran leader Lim Kit Siang garnered the highest votes (1,199) at the Special DAP Congress 2017 to remain in the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) when the re-election ended today.
Puchong Member of Parliament Gobind Singh Deo polled the second highest votes (1,198), just one vote shy of Kit Siang, while the veteran leader's son Lim Guan Eng who is also DAP secretary-general and Penang chief minister, came in third with 1,180 votes.
The results of the CEC re-election was announced by the election manager John Lau from independent audit firm, Grant Thornton, at 5pm, today.
"During the election process, 1,346 ballot papers were issued. The number of spoilt votes was 36," said John Lau when announcing the results.
Grant Thornton, based in the United States were appointed by DAP to manage the CEC which was held to re-elect 20 CEC members from a list of 62 candidates.
The overall attendance for the special congress saw a drop from 1,725 in 2013 to 1,356 today.
The most significant result of the CEC was the return of former Pandamaran state assemblyman Ronnie Liu who managed to poll 688 votes.
Meanwhile, of the six Malay candidates who contested, only assistant national publicity secretary Zairil Khir Johari made it to the list of 20 with 649 votes.
Last June, RoS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah had instructed DAP to hold a re-election of the party's CEC, as the election of CEC members and key positions via a re-election on Sept 29, 2013 was deemed unlawful.
