MIC To Field More Young Candidates In GE14 - Subramaniam

SEREMBAN, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- The MIC will field more young leaders as the party candidates in the 14th general election, said party president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

He said the MIC had submitted a list of potential candidates for GE14 to Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"After the prime minister has determined the suitable candidates, the final list will be submitted to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for screening. This time, there are more younger candidates in the list.

"I am confident of the decision of the prime minister and the BN leadership in this matter," he told Bernama after the Deepavali Dinner organised by the Negeri Sembilan MIC here last night.

Also present were Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar and state BN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, National MIC Information chief Datuk V.S. Mogan and state MIC Liaison chairman Datuk L. Manickam.

Dr Subramaniam, who is the Health Minister, said he was confident that the party would recapture the Port Dickson state seat and the Teluk Kemang parliamentary seat as well as retain the Jeram Padang state seat in GE14.

"We are targeting at least 65 per cent support from the Indian voters in the three areas. I am confident we can win the Port Dickson and Teluk Kemang seats because we have resolved all the issues in terms of households, schools and temples, and we can also retain the Jeram Padang state seat.

In Negeri Sembilan, in the last general election, the MIC won only the Jeram Padang state seat, represented by Manickam, with a majority of 2,691 votes. It lost Port Dickson and Teluk Kemang to PKR.
