KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- The Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKLW) has mobilised 1,500 of its volunteers to Penang today to provide assistance in post-flood programmes.
KKLW minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said they would help out in cleaning and painting affected premises as well as distribute 1,400 packs containing essentials such as food, blankets and personal hygiene items to areas affected by the flood.
"At the post-flood stage, the focus of the ministry is to repair affected infrastructure and ensure the welfare of rural folks," he said at the volunteer flagging off ceremony here.
He said that GiatMara trainees would also help to repair motorcycles, electrical equipment and carry out free rewiring.
Ismail Sabri added, there were also several infrastructure owned by the ministry, such as Community Development Department kindergartens that were also affected by the floods, incurring estimated losses of RM2 million.
On Nov 5, a large part of Penang was badly hit by flash floods, affecting more than 10,000 families and bringing the daily activities of its capital to a halt.
