Penang Government Constantly In Denial - Jahara

GEORGE TOWN, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- The DAP-led Penang government is in constant denial as it continues to deny the aid that came from the federal government following the recent floods that hit the state.

Opposition whip, Datuk Jahara Hamid said the federal government had sent all sorts of aid including mattresses, mats and clothes to help the flood victims.

"This is the Penang government, always in denial, not wanting to admit that the federal government has given aid. Not wanting to admit that the federal government has provided allocations. Many trailers have come here to send aid.

"We not only gave food, but neighbouring states and as far as Johor have also come to help clean up the affected areas," she told reporters at the State Legislative Assembly building, here, today.

Earlier, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said in a press conference at the lobby of the building that up till today, the state government was still waiting for the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the RM1 billion Flood Mitigation Project for the state.

"Up till today, there has been no aid announced by the government. We have tabled the project worth RM1 billion, but there is still no announcement.

"We hope he (Najib) will make the announcement as soon as possible because up till now, there has been no aid which have been approved for Penang, the RTB, or the flood victims, we are still waiting.

"Last week, we announced the Bangkit Pulau Pinang programme which will cost RM100 million, so of course we are hoping for aid from the federal government which can approve a big amount," he said.
