Artistes Hold Important Roles To Preserve Nation's Independence

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (Bernama) --Artistes should share the responsibility of preserving the nation's independence as it is not exclusively held by politicians, says UMNO Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

Even though politicians are the frontliners in national development, he said the country's history on independence had shown that the rise of the nation was also supported by ordinary people and groups in other communities.

"Cooperation between politicians and local artistes is important in the effort to produce a nation state which is progressive and interdependent.

"The voice of politicians may not be heard much by the people as we are limited, so artistes with their followers could reach out to the people, especially the younger generation to present the nation's aspirations," he said when speaking at an event of Kelab UMNO Artis Tanah Air (KUAT) at Putra World Trade Centre here today.

Annuar said various messages could be delivered to the people through the works of artistes such as songs and performances to preserve the nation's independence achieved 60 years ago.

About 300 KUAT members comprising local singers, performers, musicians and writers attended the inaugural event to strengthen relations among members and to disseminate the aspirations of UMNO in the development of the country.
