'Skuad Sayang' All Geared To Ensure Victory For BN In GE14

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- 'Skuad Sayang' (caring squad), with a strength of 1.3 million members from 21,000 branches nationwide, is all geared to ensure Barisan Nasional's (BN) victory in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Its patron, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who is also Prime Minister's wife, said the squad, which saw participation from the Wanita UMNO members, had implemented various programmes and efforts to ensure the welfare of the people as well as to win their hearts.
"The current political climate is getting more unpredictable. We cannot afford to be satisfied with our current position.
"I'm sure that there'll be bigger turbulence ahead. We need to be ready to do more work that is effective to win the hearts of the people.
"Whether we like it or not, Wanita (UMNO) should strive hard without giving up. No matter what the challenges lie ahead, make sure UMNO will win. UMNO members must stay close to the people," she said in her speech at the 'Skuad Sayang Annual Gathering with the Patron' event here today.
Also present was Skuad Sayang national chief commissioner, Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
Rosmah said she was confident that the squad could further boost its status to more than just a welfare-cum-volunteer entity.
"I believe 'Skuad Sayang' can emerge as a new household brand which is always popular among the people.
"Looking at the current social development, it is timely for 'Skuad Sayang' to expand its welfare scope to cover the human capital aspect. Such a perspective shift coincides with the current situation in which human capital development starts from family," she said.
Meanwhile, Shahrizat, who is also Wanita UMNO chief, said the women's wing which had been upholding discipline, integrity and consistency, had always been the backbone of BN.
"Welfare and volunteerism are the political aspects of Wanita UMNO, in which we follow the footsteps of UMNO President, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who has embarked on many charitable works.
"All Wanita (UMNO members) must serve the people. Welfare is not something seasonal... It has to be consistent and with God's willing, it (charity works) will bring victory to BN," she said.
At the event, Rosmah also presented the 2017 Skuad Sayang Special Awards to three recipients for their contribution in helping the people.
They are UMNO Welfare Bureau chairman, Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah; One Caring Heart Malaysia Association Selangor and Kuala Lumpur president, Datin Seri Dr Susan Cheah; and Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas (DHRRA) executive director, Nanthini Ramalo.
