Gerakan To Field 60 Per Cent New Faces In GE14

GEORGE TOWN, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Gerakan will field 60 per cent new faces to contest 45 parliamentary and state seats across the country in the coming 14th general election (GE14).

Its vice-president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said the candidates would be contesting 12 parliamentary seats and 33 state seats.

According to him, the party was ready to face the general election anytime and hoped the party members, especially the grassroots, would support the candidates to be announced by the top leadership.

Currently, Gerakan has two parliamentary seats and three state seats after GE13.

Met by reporters after visiting flood victims here today, Lau said Gerakan was out to wrest back Penang from DAP and had identified a number of seats which the party had the chances of winning.

"With the resources that we have, we will focus on the winnable seats, as well as certain seats in Penang," he said.

Lau said Gerakan had the chances of winning these seats, seeing the quality of services rendered by the party members who went to the ground to assist the people, particularly during the recent floods that hit Penang.

"We did not take credit for this as the disaster has left people from all races suffering the effects.

"We will continue to go to the ground to serve the people so that they will return their support to the Gerakan candidates (in the coming elections)," he added.
