Changing Government Not Solution To Removing Problems - Salleh

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak has stressed that changing the government is not the solution to removing all problems.

He said it was easy to blame the government for everything under the sun that had gone wrong.

There were those who suggested that the solution to removing problems was to change the government and all the problems would go away, he said.

"Is that really the solution or is this merely a snake-oil merchant's solution on how to cure all problems," he said in a post on his blog today.

Salleh also said that the problem of racism and religious intolerance could not be solved just by changing the government.

"It is people who create racial and religious problems, so, unless Malaysians are prepared to seek peace and harmony, that is never going to happen even if you change the government," he said.

Salleh noted that the same was true with issues pertaining to the economy, and questioned the critics who explained how changing the government could make all Malaysians rich.

"Malaysia is not in outer space. Malaysia is part of the global economy. Whatever happens in other countries affects Malaysia. So Malaysia is not isolated and insulated from what the other countries do," he said.

Salleh said the world had became an expensive place to live in, and that the cost of living had spiralled in any country.

"Some complain that Malaysia is too expensive. Actually, it is not a Malaysian but a world problem. When others sneeze, we catch a cold. So, no change of government can change this," he said.
