General Assembly: Kelantan UMNO Will Push For More Rural Infrastructural Development

KOTA BHARU, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Boosting the development of infrastructures in rural areas is among the agenda which will be forwarded by Kelantan UMNO at the 2017 UMNO General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur early next month.

Kelantan UMNO Liaison Committee secretary, Datuk Hanafi Mamat said many rural areas were in dire need of infrastructural facilities despite the many projects implemented in the state under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.

"The infrastructural facilities include rural roads, bridges and street lights which should either be provided or upgraded for the comfort of the rural residents," he told Bernama here today.

Hanafi, who is also Pasir Mas UMNO division chief, said the state UMNO would also suggest that job opportunities be increased, other than creating an effective mechanism to tackle the rising cost of living.

In addition, the state UMNO also wanted aid from the party or the government to be channelled directly to the target group so that the benefits were enjoyed and appreciated by recipients.

Hanafi said Kelantan UMNO would also suggest that opportunities in learning the Quran in Kelantan be increased other than encouraging Islamic-based tourism, adding that the state had a myriad of tourism potentials based on Islam but it was still not fully exploited to boost the people's income.

He said the Kelantan representatives would also touch on the importance of strengthening the spirit of solidarity in facing the 14th General Election.

He added that all these would be raised by three Kelantan UMNO representatives when debating the party president's policy speech, and economic, religious and educational motions at the five-day gathering from Dec 5, at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, a delegate and Kuala Krai UMNO division chairman, Datuk Ramzi Ab Rahman said the assembly should be a platform to fire up the spirit of party members to unite and show solidarity to the leaders to form a new fighting power to face the coming general election.

He said this was crucial in view of the current situation whereby, the party and leaders were faced with numerous attacks from the opposition which sowed slander.
