Kelantan UMNO Youth Demands Resignation Of State Assembly Speaker, Deputy Speaker
KOTA BHARU, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Kelantan UMNO Youth today called for the immediate resignation of the speaker and deputy speaker of the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly for having allegedly tarnished the sanctity of the house.
Its chief, Mohd Azman Ismail, said Speaker Datuk Abdullah Ya'kub should not have prohibited Opposition Leader and Paloh assemblyman Datuk Nozula Mat Diah from debating Budget 2018 and ordered him out of the house yesterday.
He also said that Deputy Speaker Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman should not have insulted Nozula when everyone knew that the latter was still recovering from a stroke.
"These actions are an insult to the people of Kelantan who have elected their representative to raise their problems in the house. The speaker's action also insulted the Kelantan Constitution which recognises the right of the assemblymen to express themselves," he said to reporters after handing over a memorandum on the matter to the secretary of the State Legislative Assembly, Nik Khairul Anuar Nik Yusof, at the entrance of the Kota Darul Naim Complex here.
More than 50 members of Kelantan UMNO Youth were present when the memorandum was handed over at about 11.30 am.
The state assembly, which began sitting on Monday, adjourned yesterday.
