Pensiangan UMNO Division Chief Nominated As Senator

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- The Sabah State Legislative Assembly today nominated Pensiangan UMNO division chief Datuk Abdul Ghani Mohd Yassin as a senator for Dewan Negara.

Abdul Ghani, 55, replaces state UMNO executive secretary Datuk Kadzim M. Yahya, whose term as a senator ends on Dec 22, after serving for two terms.

Abdul Ghani's nomination was proposed by Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman and seconded by Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan during the assembly sitting.

The motion was approved following the supporting votes received from 51 assembly members for the Pensiangan UMNO division chief to serve as a senator in Dewan Negara for three years or one term.

"My thanks to Musa and the assembly for choosing me to shoulder this responsibility. I will use this opportunity to uphold the welfare of the people, especially in the inland areas of Sabah," he told reporters after the assembly had been adjourned.
