Component Parties Need To Approach New Voters - Khairy

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) --Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties should approach first-time voters among the youth who will be among the major determinants of winning candidates in the 14th General Election (GE14).

BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said most new voters had not committed their support for any political party.

"We, as BN Youth need to play our respective roles to approach (the voters) face-to-face and understand their aspirations and concerns on the rising cost of living, inflation and so on.

"In my view, they have not decided yet on who to support, they have no loyalty to any party," he told a press conference after opening the myPPP Youth General Assembly at Wisma Felcra today.

Also present were myPPP Youth chief Sathiah Sudakaran, myPPP senior vice-president Datuk Seri Maglin Dennis D'Cruz and the myPPP Youth leadership line-up.

Earlier in his opening speech, Khairy, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, said all BN Youth wings should play their respective roles and work together to ensure the people did not have a perception that BN was not concerned about them.

He also wanted the BN Youth to work hard to ensure the people were not deceived by the populist promises made by the opposition.

"This GE, this time around is very critical, and challenging for BN to defend its winning record for the future, and I am confident the people can give the us the mandate, considering BN's track record so far," he said.

Meanwhile, Sathiah hoped BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would consider MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas as the BN candidate for Cameron Highlands in GE14.

In his speech at the assembly, he expressed confidence that Kayveas would help bring the country forward.
