Bera UMNO Gives School Aid To 7,000 Pupils Each Year

KUANTAN, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Each year, some 7,000 primary and secondary school pupils in the Bera parliamentary constituency have been receiving school aid from Bera UMNO.

Bera UMNO division secretary, Datuk Tahzir Husain said the aid in the form of school uniform, bag and shoes, were given to each of the students who were orphans, children of single mothers or from low-income families at the end of December.

"A new school uniform may be regarded as nothing much, but for these students, especially those in primary schools, it will increase their self-esteem because they are no different from their peers," he told Bernama.

Tahzir said stationery were also given to students who were sitting for major examinations.

Apart from students, Bera UMNO also helped soon-to-be-married couples by giving each 10 bags of rice, each weighing 10 kilogrammes, for their wedding receptions.

"This will help ease the financial burden of the couples. The rice will be delivered on the day of the kenduri (feast)," he said, adding that the couple would also be given cash aid.

Tahzir said soon-to-be-married couples in Bera could apply for the aid, which had been given to 700 couples this year, by presenting their wedding card as proof.

He said ongoing assistance was also given to the poor or those with chronic illnesses and also to flood evacuees.

"The usual donations especially during festive seasons like Aidilfitri and Aidiladha have become an annual affair for Bera UMNO and a few years ago, a mass circumcision programme was introduced.

"Most importantly, the aid is not on a one-off basis," he said.
